Mayan Messenger Winter 2008
May 1, 2008
It is has been an excellent winter season at Casa Blanca, Playa Blanca & Casa Redonda. It was quite a winter of permit fishing. Highlighted by a couple of veteran anglers Trapper Rudd & Ted Johnston accomplishing some great permit achievements. Capt. Ted caught his 77th ASCENSION BAY permit this season while fishing with Luis out of Casa Blanca. This is quite an achievement. We would be curious to know how many, if any, other fly fisherman have caught that many A Bay permit on a fly. Trapper put on a permit catching clinic while staying at Casa Redonda in January. While wade fishing the southern edge of Espiritu Santo Bay by himself, Trap caught his first two permit. The next day he jumped in a boat with Antonacio and proceeded to catch 3 more permit in just a few hours! Remarkable thing...he made 4 casts to catch 3 permit. Each cast was perfect, his strip was on the money and the fish ate. We have it all on film. Remarkable fishing reports, such as one group of anglers seeing over 200 schooling permit in a feeding frenzy in Ascension Bay, another angler landed 40 bones in one day and more. And of course the Double Grand Slam. Two anglers, same boat AND they had a double Permit hook up to get the slam. Pretty cool stuff. A few of the boys were able to get up close and personal with nature this season. How about the photos of the Jaguar stalking the frigate bird nest taken by Cristobal from Casa Blanca! And of course there is the story about Bobby's close call with the man eating shark. Go to the website to get the complete story. Speaking of the website.
