Just came back from the island. Fishing was fantastic. Big thunder showers later night and early morning flushed the bay with fresh water. Beginning of the week started a little slow , a few permit in the morning, afternoons relatively quiet. Mid week things started to heat up. Big bonefish, schools of permit and tarpon to 60 lbs. were all caught in Ascension Bay. Espiritu Santo Bay was loaded with permit 6 to 10 lbs. schooling in 2 feet of water. The fishing was amazing. Permit everywhere. Anglers ventured back up into the rivers to cast at snook & tarpon. Snook were spooky, but catchable. Tarpon were willing to crash poppers providing excellent photo ops. What a week. Sacrificio and the Casa Blanca marina were loaded with bonefish 3 lbs. upwards of 10 plus lbs. Spooky fish, only the persistent catch. Worth the effort. Big nasty barracuda fishing was a nice treat and a great way to break up the day.

The weather was not good last week. We had North winds at 20kts. and gusty. Rainfall as well in the mornings and afternoon. Luckily, like so many of our clients, everyone understood that its weather and you can´t do a thing about it. They headed out everyday and made the best of it.
Agustin put Rick and Rob on some fun tarpon and snook action. How´s that line burn doing Rob? Rick also landed a nice Permit during the week.
Pedro kept Phyllis and Martin in the bonefish. I they had a couple of shots at Permit and Tarpon as well. We are waiting for the picture of Phyllis´1st Tarpon that she landed off the end of the pier.
David had Viv and Pat well taken care of in the poor weather. They had reports of some Big bonefish landed and cast to.
Eladio had John and Ralph in some Snook and Tarpon action. They really wanted Permit but the Mayan Gods were not smiling for them this week.

The weather last week could have been much better. But that did not matter...everyone had good times and good fishing.
There were 4 Permit caught last week. Jad got his first Permit under the lights at the end of the pier. Mark got his while fishing with Pedro. Jad and Mark were part of a group of 18. The rest of the group had plenty of bonefishing throughout the week.
Eladio gave Dennis and Bob a fine week. Bob had the other 2 Permit caught for the week. They were his first and second ever. Bob and Dennis also landed a couple of snook one day. Bob landed his snook then a tarpon and a few bones in one day. A 3 out of the 4 fish for a super grand slam.

Last week the weather was cooperating. The 6 days of fishing weather was very nice. As a result quite a few fish were caught.
Pete S. and Robert K. both recorded their 1st Permit. Pete went on to make it a Grand Slam day. And Robert ended up landing his Permit, a Jack , a Cuda and a Tarpon all on the same Tarpon fly. I guess it never hurts to throw something different in front of any fish.
Buzz B. landed and brought in the picture of the biggest bonefish I´ve seen caught here. The photo weighed at least 2 pounds. Please send us a copy of the monster Buzz.
Barry S. Had a really good day with Jorge down in the mangroves. He boated 3 tarpon b4 9 am. He had the fly in the mouth of numerous other Tarpon but could not get hooked up to beat his one day record of 3 Tarpon.
Rod and his angling partner both recorded their first Tarpon. I believe he told me they were the first Tarpon they´ve ever cast to. I told them both to give up Tarpon fishing cause they are way ahead of the game. Usually you jump 7 b4 boating one.
All in all the whole group said they had great fishing and a great time here at the lodge due to the wonderful staff that never let them turn around without asking if they needed something.

Last week 15 - 22 there is not much to tell. The weather was terrible. 20 Kt. North wind all week. The water stayed warm though and the bonefishing was still good. But Permit and Tarpon fishing was quite futile.
Big scoop this week:
Doug and Wes F. (Father & Son) who came here last year at the behest of Cucchi (who they met in Andros). Doug got his first Permit last year and son Wes got his first on Sunday this year fishing with Pato.
Joe D. landed 3 Permit on monday and 1 yesterday fishing with Tara.
Mike and Bernard have cast to and jumped their first Tarpons and are hooked on Tarpon fishing!!

Despite the windy weather we had a great week on the water. Doug(father) and Wes(son) fished with Pato and Wes landed his first permit on the first day out. They continued to get many shots with doug hooking up but unable to land his permit. Many bones caught and they both landed tarpon as well(small). Joe D had a great week landing 4 Permit for the week with Tara and 3 of those on the same day!! He also had a good snook(3) day on fri. Mike- Fished with Jose and was getting back into bone fishing after a long time away from it. He caught numerous bone fish on 5lbs. Caught his first tarpon and had a couple shots at permit.

I don´t know how how I could forget this...Bernie from Austria was on his first saltwater trip. He Caught numerous bones and was slaying the barracuda on his flyrod. Caught snook and tarpon as well. Had hooked up with a permit early in the week and on fri caught a grand slam with a nice 20+lb permit. He had a smile on his face all week fishing with Augustine and I´m sure he still has it after the slam.

Last week we had a great group from Colorado at Casa Blanca with a mix of skill levels. All of the anglers had a very successful week on the flats. Numerous bone fish caught...6 permit landed along with tarpon and snook. The fishing off the pier at night was also exciting...a couple permit some big bonefish and the jack action kept everyone coming back each night. Mike caught his first permit on a fly with Augustine and followed it up with another one off the pier. Tony caught his first permit while fishing with Tara and his wife landed many bonefish and had some shots at permit as well. Brad and Gordon each managed to boat a permit through the week with many opportunities while fishing with Eladio. Shannon and Sharon fished with David and had a wonderful week landed many bonefish as well as tarpon and opportunities for permit and snook.

Excerpts from email received: Yeah a cobia, there were three of them out in the deep water, off the end of a point near a small light house at Playa Blanca, someplace south across from where the boats launch (I think). Three nice cobia, I put a big black & red tarpon fly in between the three of them. We watched them lumber toward the fly, only about 30 feet away from the front of the boat. They all chased it, then one nosed out in front and grabbed before the other 2 could get it.... pretty fun..... It was a good fish on fly. It didn't run fast, but real strong. I think I was into the backing twice. It was a ball. You guys do a good job, it is a well run group down there, which I'm sure is no small task. We had a great week.

Fishing report 7-14 Enero PB
Mike had a perfect week. He landed 2 permit and a grand slam on the last day. When he went to Santa Rosa he was on tarpon all day. He landed a couple. His wife rested and had soups, salads and fresh fish every day with chef Meche. By the way there is a Playa Blanca recipe book coming out in the new future.
Nate landed 3 permit and his partner David landed 2 permit.
Dan and his wife landed permit during the week. Even had double hook up on permit. They said they had great time fishing with Jorge.
One day I took Mary Ann to Tupac one morning. They couldn’t stop catching bones and David got his first permit on fly.
The E's landed tons of bones and a couple of snook. They loved fishing in Santa Rosa for big tailing bonefish.

COME DOWN AND FISH WITH US
Hi, my name is Mike. I manage at Playa Blanca fishing lodge. This year has been a tough year. I think it all started with the stock market crash, then the drug lords. Now there’s even a flu scare. Seems to me that someone or some peoples don’t want Americans coming or spending money in Mexico for some strange reason. All that I can say is I don’t know much about whats going on in the world, but I can tell you about what is going on the island Pnt Pajaros. There is a lot of sunshine, a little breeze, a tons of bonefish tailing in both bays Espirito Santos and Asecion Bay. Not to mention that there are migrating tarpon coming through the area, both on the beach side, and the ocean side of the island. I guess we have been lucky enough to have enough clients to keep the lodges running. Good thing is that the return clients that come every year know that what ever goes on the world has nothing to do with here on the island. The only bad thing going on here is getting broken of on a 30 lb. permit, or getting hung up on a mangrove while casting at a 50 lb tarpon.
Really, things are great here on the island. Not to mention there’s too much fresh baked bread and desserts. Did I forget to say there is Dorado moving everywhere past the surf, not to mention also kingfish, Wahoo, sailfish, tuna? I hope no ones not thinking about not coming down here to share all this with us. That would be a real shame. I hoping to everyone on my original list. Well guys I will see ya when you get here.
By the way the clients have been landing permit, bones, tarpon, cobia, cudas, on a daily bases.
Take care because life is a beach,
Mike

Good morning:
First, thanks for your hospitality during my recent stay....I had a great trip! Unfortunately, I forgot to get Jorge's email address....can you send it to me?
I reviewed the satellite tracking information that I collected while fishing with Jorge.....we averaged about 45 miles per day and 8 hours on the water.
Best regards,
Jim Buckler
