05/28/08 - Comments & Pictures / Casa Blanca Fishing Lodge

"My father, Alan and I were guests at Casa Blanca Lodge last week —which was world class for sure.  We fished with Tara and landed 3 permit, several tarpon, a big snook and a million bonefish—and my father got a complete grand slam on Thursday the 22nd.  Pics of the slam are first followed by some others—also check out www.mossyoak.com for a story I posted on our site.

Great place, great people, great trip—thanks!"

Fishing Report

The Week  of  April 26 – May 3rd we had 3 people land their 1st Permit on fly.

The Tarpon fishing was a little slow but there were a few jumped. Also the Snook fishing was slow due to low tides.Viv  did manage to land his first and second Snook while fishing with David.

The week of May 3rd – 10th. Ken M. landed his first Permit on fly while fishing with Cucchi and Tara. Viv landed 2 permit for the week and they were one day apart and both were Grand Slam days.

The week of May 10 – 17 we had a laid back crowd. They had a lot of good Bonefishing and some very nice lunches prepared by Esteban. They came back for lunch 4 out of the 6 days.

There was 1 1st Permit on the fly that was John W.  Mr. Matsuru landed his 40th career Pemit this week as well. I believe that brings his Permit total for Ascension Bay to 7.

April 6 – 12

Jose Valero (Garnacha) and Pato helped their clients Jerry and Andrea to land 1st permits on the fly. Jerrys´was here in Ascencion Bay and Andreas´was on the last day of a 2 week stay and in Espiritu Santo Bay.

Agustin and Eladio both helped their clients add to the list of Permit on the fly landed. Eladio with Gerhard and Agustin with Stefan.

Agustin put his clients, Aex and Stefan on Snook during the week and they boated one in the 10 lb. range. He also took them to the T-Lagoon where Alex boated a very nice Tarpon (60 to 80lb range). Do not know if the flys used were brought by the brothers or some of Agustins´ flys. They were “Tight Lipped” about divulging.

Pedro also put his clients on some tarpon and 1 in the 12 lb. range was brought to the boat.

All the rest of the boats(Jose,David,Tara,Manuel) got into some fine bonefishing for the week. Gaspar ands his clients got into a school of some 6#,7# and up.

Franz landed a Very Nice1st Permiton the fly off the end of the pier on Friday night. I would guess in the 18 to 20# (maybe more). He was not sure it was a Permit until he showed the photo to myself and Stefan and Alex. We pointed out the the yellow on the belly and the black tail and assured him he would have surprise for his efforts on his trip next year.

Isla Punta Pajaros sits within the protective boundaries of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. Sian Ka'an, Mayan for “Where the sky is born”, is a 1.3 million-acre natural reserve along the central coast of the province of Quintana Roo. The island of Punta Pajaros is located in next great fishing/adventure frontier and offers access to areas, in Ascension Bay and Espiritu Santo Bay, that were until recently inaccessible and virtually un-explored and un-fished by rod & reel. The climate is wonderful year round. From November through June, the days are dry with an average midday temp of 88 F.

For over 20 years Casa Blanca has been known around the world as the best destination to saltwater fly fish for bonefish, permit, tarpon and snook.  Lefty Kreh said it best "Of all the places I've fished, I think Casa Blanca offers the very best shot at a 'Grand Slam' ... a bonefish, a permit and a tarpon, all in one day."

Now people of all skill levels can participate in the many different adventure activities available at Playa Blanca Adventure Resort and Casa Redonda Suites. Explore Mayan ruins. Snorkel the Palancar Reef, the world's second largest reef. Kayak through the jungle in the inland magrove waters, perfect opportunity to fish for juvenile tarpon. Take a cruiser bike and peddle through the jungle, along the shore, in search of your own private white sand beach. Cast a line to the numerous flats & reef species that roam these waters. Or, relax in a hammock with a refreshing tropical drink.

Isla Punta Pajaros has something for everyone!  A true tropical paradise.
